| So, my fish that were so sick last week are apparently feeling better. I came home last Tuesday to find a hojillion eggs all over the roots of the water hyacinth.
I pulled a couple of plants out and put them in a big tub of pond water to see if we could get any fry. Nearly every egg has turned white and the ones that are still amber colored don't have anything going on inside of them. I am wondering if the females would have spawned without a male in the pond. I have four koi in there and they did spawn once about 3 years ago which resulted in one mutt koi. There was also a goldfish in there at the time. Any thoughts on what happened? I'm thinking that if there is a male in there, he must have been off watching the World Cup and was too busy to make his contribution. - Oh, and what should I do about the eggs still on the w.h.? Should I clean them off somehow before I put them back in the pond or should I let the fish eat the eggs even though they are nearly a week old? |

| Females will spawn with no present, but the eggs won't hatch. Remove as many of them as you can. Returning the eggs to the pond will make ammonia levels go back up as they begin to decay, and you sure don't need that! |

| I would have thought your koi would have devoured all those eggs. My herd always follows along behind the spawning fish, cleaning up the eggs as they're being laid. |
