You can bet he will and if not the same one, another one. If one can find your pond others can too.

Herons are smart. If your dog is not outside, he may come back. He'll be watching. And like Pikecoe said, if one finds it, another may also. Keep the dog on patrol or apply some other method of predator control.

Sorry to hear about your fish but I hope you rewarded your dog. Makes me want to go out and get a golden today.

I have trained my dogs to chase the heron away and it works. The heron comes less often and whenever I hear or see it I shout to my dogs "go get the bird" and they run around the pond and then put two paws on the side to look into the pond for the bird. Sometimes the bird is up in a tree watching them and it is really funny to see the dogs jumping in the air trying to "get the bird".

Yeah for Dillon - but be careful. The beaks on those birds could cause him serious injury if the heron felt he needed to defend himself. They strike like a knife.
