What is the brand name on the batting?

Last year when I decided to replace the cushions on my porch swing I tore open the faded old ones and found enough 1" thick material to add to my skimmer basket for the needed additional filtering of spring time suspended alge blooms that will last me 10 years. Just cut to fit. One piece washed every day was good for three to four weeks before it started to break down.

MBF, I don't understand why you would have to put the batting into bags?
The polyester quilt batting I use, comes in rolls about 1/2" to 3/4" thick, 6 feet wide (unfolded)and is packaged in several different lengths. I buy it at Wal-Mart.

I just fold it over a couple of times to whatever thickness I want,then I trim it to width and length I require, then I tuck it into place in the filter box. After it is used over half the season, I discard it and replace it with a new piece of batting.

Is the pad you purchased firm/stiff or is it just normal soft polyester quilt batting?
I'm always looking for new ideas.

Sounds like I use the same batting as Horton. I've always just tucked it in snuggly. Seems to me if it were bagged, the water would find a way *around* it which defeats the purpose.

Still...curious about your discovery. And of ocurse, how the price compares to the roll. Don't mind so much the cutting & tucking if means more $ for plants :)

The stuff I have been buying was soft and stuffed in a large plastic bag and was getting sucked up into the filter so I put it in mesh bags. The gunk seemed to miss most of the bags and just go thru the pump not the batting. The stuff I got this time is very stiff/firm (like a scrubbing brush) I am not sure what it would normally be used for cause it's too hard for blankets and pillows. It's so solid that it slid into place of the green brushes in the skippy. I don't know the brand cause I have already tossed the wrapper.
