How to seal holes in a whiskey barrel water garden container?

I have a whiskey barrel water container. I have decided to drill holes in the side of the barrel in order to run the water pump and electrical cord out of the side so it didn't have to be hung over the top edge of the container. what can I use to seal the holes in the barrel so that the water won't leak out? Is there some sort of grommets that will fit in the holes to seal them? Or is there something else that I can use? Thanks for the help?

well Im not sure but I had pond right in barrel killed all my fish,I needed to put a plastic pot inside.anybody else???Im guessing old wine?leached out of barrel.

We have used Marine Epoxy with great success. It is two part putty type material (harder than putty though) that you have to knead together. Pack it in where you want it and it hardens. We used it on the skippy filter about 4 or 5 summers ago and the seals are still tight this spring. Your holes look pretty big so I don't know how well it would work. Maybe if you put a mesh backing over the holes once the wires are in it would give support. Silicone is another option I think.
