Pond grass that scratches and cuts

Can anyone ID this grass for me? I have done an extensive search and can't find it mentioned anywhere but maybe I'm calling it the wrong thing. It is about 12-15 inches high above the water and is growing in less than a foot of water in a mud-bottom pond. It's kind of nondescript and harmless looking until you brush up against it. It is very raspy and abrasive! I remember getting my legs all scratched up by it as a little kid and now it's flourishing in my daughter's large pond.

Is it a desirable plant other than being something you want to stay away from? The frogs and tadpoles love hanging out in it, which is a good thing. I just don't want it to take over. I pulled some out with my bare hands awhile ago and cut my finger pretty bad and right now I'm nursing a 2" scratch on my arm from just barely touching it. Nasty stuff! But maybe it's got some good qualities?

It's not really this yellowy-green, that's just the late afternoon sun doing that.
