Pond up and running

After getting discouraged about the winter fish death and then just letting the pond sit, I was issued an ultimatum - "Either get it running and get fish in there to eat the mosquito wigglers or let's take it out."

That gave me the incentive I needed! It is now up and running - though it sure needs some cosmetic attention.

Had the water tested - it's okay.

Was going to buy a couple of fish tomorrow and today ran into someone at work looking for homes for last year's baby shubunkin and goldfish.

So... I'll be heading out tomorrow or Sunday to pick some babies up.

I have a 160 gallon pond. Previously I had just the two adults, a comet and a volunteer black fish. Are 4 too many for 160 gallons? I know Koi take LOTS of water per fish but not sure about goldfish type of fish.

I am glad you are recovering from the depression over losing your fish and that you are looking forward to getting the new ones. I enjoy shubunkins, in particular.

Four should be fine.

FYI you can use Mosquito Dunks in any body of standing water for control of mosquito larvae. They are safe and effective.

Safe for children, pets and wildlife, just not mosquito larvae.

buyorsell888.......where can I buy these Mosquito Dunks? I have saw that posted a few times on here. I just didn't know if they were a special order or what :) Thanks

Four are fine, and your goldies will quickly clean up the mosquito larvae.

Mosquito dunks are available in the plant section of places like Lowes or Home Depot and at pond stores. They work really well and don't hurt the insects and animals that might drink from the pond.
