People in my pond! Ahhhhh.....

Ok, so one thing we've tried to be extra careful about was our children around the pond. They are not allowed in the back yard if we're not out there with them. We have 4 children, a 21 year old, a 19 year old, a 5 year old and a 2 year old. It's actually scary thinking about a little one falling in.
Well today it happened!! We bought some plants and a new koi. We were very excited about putting it into it's new home. The others seem so happy that we figured they'd welcome him/her to the pond. Sure enough my 19 year old was floating the bag and reaching on the pond when SPLASH, in she goes. My 19 year old fell in!!!!!
She's ok, bumped her head on a rock from the waterfall and probably ruined her cell phone that was I'm her pocket but otherwise Ok.
I spent the past hour watching the pond trying to account for all the fish while my husband scooped out the rocks and fixed the pump. I've finally found them all and I think (or at least I hope) they are all ok. Our problem now is, we could just be imagining it, but the water level seems to be dropping. Ughhhh... What are we going to do if there is a hole on the liner? Are they expensive? Our pond is about 950 gallons. If we need a new liner then we'll probably just expand at the same time. Any suggestions or advice?? Where do we start? What kind of costs are involved?

Make sure your 19 year old gets swimming lessons.

I'm here to tell you age makes no difference when it comes to falling in a pond. I fell in a couple of months ago and I'm 68. I was thinning out some plants and found an earthworm. I threw it into the pond for the fish and it hung up on the net covering the pond. I reached waaay out to flick it off with a ginsu knife I had in my hand and the rock tilted and I went in feet first into 5 ft.of water. Boy did my fish scatter.

Check for water diversion in the waterfall area since that is the area that was disturbed. Glad you daughter was okay.

A teenager can displace a lot of water. Assuming you have a heavy liner and unless she was wearing golf or track shoes, I think you can forget about liner damage.

Hello everyone.... we topped up the water in the pond last night and this morning it seemed to be fine so I guess the liner is fine. The fish also seem to be ok. A little spooked but ok. Still want to eventually expand the pond. Would love to double the size but now we'll do that when we're ready not because we had to! :)

Glad she is OK, hope her phone is OK or at least up for upgrade. A few years ago we got a new goldern retriever dog. Within an hour of bringing him home he was in our pond! scratching at the side trying to get out. My wife pulled him out and there was no damage to the liner. It is a 45 mil liner.

Check the waterfall

Matt
