| Harbor Freight has a fountain pump on sale that will pump 60 gallons per hour. Would that be strong enough for a half barrel? Anyone have experience with Harbor Freights pumps? What's your opinion. Thanks all. |

| I have a Mag-18, 1800gph and it is barely enough for my full barrel. |
RE: Harbor Frieght pump? Edit...

| Wish there was an edit feature... My Mag-18 pumps through a filter near the pond so if your pumping straight from the pond into the barrel you may not need quite as much. |

| Are you wanting to put a fountain in a half barrel? If so, that pump will be strong enough. Harbor Freight have some good pumps for the price. If you are doing this fountain on a budget, go for it. I have two of the larger pumps, one which is running in the pond now. |

| Ah, yes, I just read the other post about putting a fountain in a container and realized my thought process was a little distorted. For your purposes the pump would be fine, for my purposes I couldn't have enough flow. Good luck.

| I have several of their small pumps and I think you may be disapointed. The one you describe is sufficent for a small tabletop fountain at best. Still, for the price they move water quite well so long as the water is clean. I use one to water my indoor plants through a drip system. |

| After trying a number of more expensive pumps, I went to Harbor Freight pumps strictly for cost concerns. I make my own filters and use only submerged setups. Nothing really fancy or complex. I love them. They are cheap, simple and reliable and when one goes out I don't have to bankrupt myself replacing it! |

| Pat is right. It is easy enough to make filters and not all the small pumps are as small as 60 gallons. I really can't remember needing to trash one. If it is too small, just add another. There are lots of connectors available in the pet store. |

You'll want to go a bit bigger. I have harbor freight pumps and some of them are probably pushing 5 years old. They have been workhorses for my small watergardens. |

Go with this one or the 145. http://www.harborfreight.com/190-gph-mini-submersible-pump-41287.html |

| I use the larger ones and the first one was a 1585 GPH and I ran it for three years with and without the filter before the shaft broke. I then ordered a 1268 GPH for a backup and the necessary parts to fix the other. They are bothe still working today and it's been about six years since I bought the first one. |
