I have a simple question. Does it matter if the touch vegetation around the pond? So much plant material is overhanging that it the answer is yes I have much redesigning to consider. Thanks

I hope the question was: 'is it ok to have the hot wire touch plants'. The hot wire will still work if it touches some plants but it may burn the plants. I would imagine that if the contact was wide spread, the line might 'ground out' and fail to shock intruders.
My experience is with my gardens, not my pond.

If you are talking about a teeny bit of vegetation such as an occasional weed or leaf, it should not cause any problems if everything is dry. But if it has rained and everything is wet, it will probably not work at all even with small amounts of vegetation. The shock is produced when an animal touches the fence and is grounded....his feet are on the ground. It completes an electrical circuit and causes the shock. But if you have plants touching it, the circuit is already completed and and the current is already flowing out through the plant. So the animal will probably not get a shock.

nosambos, take a look at the Fido Shock installation manual linked below.
Scroll right down to the "Trouble shooting" page and you will find the answer to your question.

I use a small horse corral fence charger and plants do not affect the operation if they touch the wire. It still gives off the pulsing shock. I have noticed a leaf or two with burn marks, where the plant came in contact with the wire but nothing exceptional.
