From what little I have seen in my pond, it is dependent on the weather conditions. Comets and even Koi don't seem to have rigid timetables for reproduction. If conditions are right, they go for it even if females are not gravid. (I guess they like sex games.)

Thanks Sleepless for your reply. I cleaned my pond a few weeks ago and I am positive that my comets had spawned. I didn't know whether they would spawn again this season or not. I guess I will find out in a few weeks if the females are gravid.

Mine seem to spawn off and on all summer.

My comets normally spawn for a few weeks once the weather warms up in the spring. However, this year the weather has been fluctuating quite a bit between hot and cool. Normally they would have finished all their hanky panky but I notice they are still at it.... With respect to offspring: Perhaps my comets have defective genes but the coloring of my comets is not stable and it seems to be worse with their offspring. Several have lost nearly all the orange coloring. The shubunkins, wakin and koi all seem to have stable coloring patterns.

Mine spawn on and off too, Pashta. I think I have at least the sixth batch of eggs in there at the moment, and they started mid-May. I have babies in all sizes, but those monster-parents are sure good at munching on them LOL I hope Ill have at least a few left. Some are getting to non-snack size now, so Im crossing my fingers.
