Pennywort spreads like wildfire. I kept a little along my stream for several years, but it is totally unmanageable in the stream. It looked great at first, but by the end of summer, it had spread so badly I couldn't even see the stream!

So I constructed a pennywort bed along the edge of the pond, and that was more manageable because I simply removed the shoots that tried to escape the bed. I ended up taking it out too, not because it was unmanageable, but because the fish liked to spawn in it.

I still have a little bit of it trailing along the stream, in the ground outside the stream, and in soil it doesn't seem to spread as rapidly.

In short, it's in interesting plant if you have the time to maintain it. If you want to consider it, you might try it in a pot and them remove all the shoots that try to escape the pot. Otherwise, it might not be worth it to you.

I grow pennywort in my waterfall and pond every year. It has never taken over my yard. As long as I kept it in floating planters it was fine. But then again, I live in Ohio where the temperatures won't allow it to overwinter.

I just added a bunch of pennywort to my pond last week not knowing it was pennywort. The pond guys called it buttercup. I placed it bare roots in the rocks along the edge of my pond. I hope it does not take over. I guess only time will tell.

Not sure why they called it buttercup. I have the giant pennywort and I grow it in pots. If you don't want it to spread, just pull the runners. It will fill the pot first though.

i find almost all water plants are invasive on some level lol i guess that depends on the climate.
I would keep any plant in a pot until you learn the nature of the beast lol. I like floating plants because they are easy to harvest and make great mulch !! gary
