Is water lettuce legal in Florida?

We have a small ornamental pond I would love to put it in, but do not want to break Florida law.

I can not seem to get a clear answer online. Apparently its illegal in TX.

I have a friend who has some in his pond and could transplant easily.

jaybird I am sure Florida is probably the same as Texas. It is illegal because it is invasive to our lakes and streams and goes wild. It is hard to find here, but many have it for their ponds. Water hyacinth is also supposed to be illegal here but many have it. I don't think the "Water Plant Patrol" is going to invade my backyard or yours and confiscate it like they do a illegal smoking substance. If I can find any lettuce I would love to have some as I don't anticipate tossing it in a creek or area lake if I get too much. I gave away tons of both last year thru Craigs list and GW. I say if you want it and can find it, go for it.

thanks flagtruck. i am pretty much a "by the book" sort of guy. I don't want to do anything wrong. However, that being said, I am nowhere near any fresh water and my ornamental pond is only about 10 feet in diameter.

I am 200 yards or so from salt water. I wonder if it would even propogate in saltwater?

I certainly wouldn't want to introduce it inadvertently to a water way.

Just make sure that it can't escape the pond from flood water or storm surge.

Hi
There is quite a list of banned plants go to "Floridata " for info. Though supposedly illegal I frequently find most of them for sale at nureries lol
When you think about it almost any water plant can become invasive in florida due to the climate.
IMO HYacinth is more useful as a water purifier and prettier as a bonus lol. gary
