Safe plants for pond liners

I have just constructed a large(ish) pond, about 30 mtrs x 16mtrs. It is lined with Gordon Low Greenseal with underlay above and below and also clay above. Question is:-what plants' roots may penetrate the liner? I have been told to avoid Common or Norfolk Reed and maybe Bulrush although he didn't know if he meant Reed Mace or the real Bulrush (Scirpus Lacustris) I have already planted the variegated Phragmites which I was told was ok. but I am scared of going further without reliable advice. Can anyone help or perhaps point me towards a good web site? Thanks all.
