Cleaning the Beach with crazy Koi -- video!

The Head guy cleans the beach about once a week,

by blasting the beach with the hose full blast, until

all the stuff stuck in the rocks is loosened. The gunk

then floats down the pond to the Bottom drain.

Our crazy Koi can't wait to ge into the beach to

scurry up all the goodies released from the rocks,

as that is their feeding station...They love being

blasted with the hose full blast. How crazy is that?

Does anyone else have Koi that like being blasted full

force with the hose, like ours do?

Remember a few weeks ago I told you, Cliff was reading

an article that said, "you should feed koi floating

food, as they are bottom feeders, and the floating food

will entice them to come to the surface for food, thus you can then see them."

...Really!?! Check out our crazy bottom feeders...after

the beach was cleaned, they hang there as long as we're outside, begging for food.

That was a great video! Really lovely pond you have. The landscaping is beautiful. You guys have quite a few koi!

My goldfish "play" also. I've seen them sort of float to the skimmer where the water gets pulled into the filter and rush away so they don't get sucked in. I thought at first they were just being stupid but they keep doing this over and over again. Its looks to me like they are playing.

When I'm adding water the fish like to fall in line facing the hose and swim as fast as they can. It looks like play but maybe instinct is there, too. It's fun to watch, whatever the reason.

    Nice video, thanks.

Loved the video...a funny thing though, I have a couple of zebra finch brothers...I usually take their cover off around 10 am, but they started squeaking as soon as I turned your video on...when I muted it they quieted down, but as soon as I turned the sound back on they went nuts again..I guess I need to watch them better when adding water to my little pond.

Thanks for your kind comments everyone.
Cheryl, we use to have zebra finches, they are so cute
and lively. Did you get any babies yet?

Now we have a canary and a love bird.

The water running in the kitchen makes my canary sing.

I keep my birds in the kitchen. When I play my videos
(in the den) my canary goes nuts and sings his head off.
I think it's from the outside birds singing in the videos.

Joann, my finches are brothers so no, no babies. I have a pair of diamond dove sisters and a parakeet too. I have been playing that video of yours and I swear they all look happy listening. Thanks again.

check out my video from June 20th -- it's the one that is
2:23 long. The wrens singing outside makes my carary
sing like a sonofagun in competition. :)

Loved the video and all the gorgeous koi. I spray my rocks down about once a week, and my goldies and koi love it also.

Many times I turn the water on low, and let it spray into the pond. They will swim through it, under it, and sometimes jump up into the spray. When I get into the pond, to trim and such, they follow me around like kids wanting candy. When I move from one place to the next, the hubby says it looks like a little orange train and I'm the engine.

Joann, here is a picture of my Diamond Doves...they're sisters...about the size of a Canary. They coo all the time...they realize if they coo louder I will give them a treat...

Hardin, our koi follow Cliff around in the pond as well....They are as curious as a cat.

Cheryl, The doves are so pretty, our outdoor doves coo
so softly, do the diamond doves coo all the time during the day? Are they messy?
    Our canary and our lovebird
    are both messy.
We made them wood cages with glass cages.
They both sit in the front of the glass watching us...
sometimes I feel that they think we're the ones in the cage.

My canary flies around a few times a week when I clean his cage, however,
since we made the cage for the lovebird
he refuses to come out of his new home.
