Fish food pellet size

I bought some fish food yesterday and could only find a medium size pellet (~1/4 inch). I have small fish about 5 inches in length. The man a the store said that the fish can eat this size without any problems. But, now I'm wondering. It be like a human eating an apple whole. Any thoughts?

I don't know what kind of fish food you bought, but most pellets soften in water and the small fish nibble at it.

In the past when I have had baby fish I have crushed the (TetraPond)dry pellets between my fingers before I put them in the pond.

Also, some people say they don't even feed their fish; just allow them to eat naturally. Feeding the fish is an activity that I enjoy but don't worry about it if I miss a day due to rain or being away.

So far I have never had a fish starve to death!!

I use a mix of flakes and food sticks. I have a few 3 in. right now and they can inhale a stick just as well as the 10 inch comets once they get wet.

I generally use flakes as well but the pellets are fine. Once they get wet, size is a non-issue.
