i got two new koi because something ate my big beautiful white butterfly koi:( he was not far from being a foot long and all of the sudden he was gone. all my small goldfish are still there. we have a hawk that lives in the backyard I'm thinking maybe he got him. but I don't know because i have a lily that covers half the pond and he had plenty of room to hide:( any way here's my new koi a gold one(when I bought him he was solid shimmery gold) now hes got all these black markings on him is that cause hes stressed? will it go away? or is he trying to blend into the black pond? The other is white with black patches. no names yet. My pickerel is blooming so I threw that in there too:)

Koi often change coloration as they grow. They can't change at will to match pond coloration. :)

Buyorsell, fish can change color with stress tho. And i know they change color as they age i had black goldfish turn orange, but this change was immediate like he was pure shimmery yellow at the store and i put him in my pond and he turned mottled....hmmmm
