| If you feed your fish as autumn looms do you feed well to fatten them up, taper off feeding to harden them off, or something else altogether? |

| If you overwinter your fish in the pond you should switch to a wheat germ based food when the water temperatures drop and stop feeding them when the water temp goes below 50F. The fishes metabolism slows when the water gets colder and they can not digest the food that you normally feed in the summer. I think some people use a Microbelift Fall product to help their ponds through winter but not sure. My fish come in to their indoor pond in the house during the winter here as it is long and brutally cold from the end of October until the middle of April. Pond is under 2 ft of ice or more for the winter so fish are very happy indoors and get fed all winter long as water temperature is room temperature 72F. Do a search on what to do in winter on this forum should help with winterizing questions. |
