Do I need to wait to introduce plants into the pond?

OK, finally after a looooong time, it's time to introduce some life into the pond. Cosmetically it's not finished, but the water is ready to accept something. I have some generic lily (bought at Lowe's) that's been growing in a plastic trash bin, I'll dump that in first. Do I need any type of "conditioning" agent to make the water more suitable for animals? I don't mean fish, at least nothing big. I'm thinking I'd like some frogs, so maybe get some tadpoles. Can the water condition itself if left alone for a few days? The pond will be MAINLY for lilies and other aquatic plants. I've read up on them, and will get some floatables and submerged varieties, as well as some marginals for the shallow shelf.

Thanks,
