| Hi. I have some very basic questions about pond upkeep.
Basically, we have a hole in the ground, dug by my brother with a hi-ho. Our pond is about 10' deep x 30' wide and long. It is 2 years old. It was dug at the lowest point of a slope where he had expected to find springs, but didn't. The water level this year is very high to overflowing, because of all the rainfall. Last year, the pond was only 1/2 full because of the drought and was useless for swimming. I want and do use the pond for swimming. The sides are beginning to silt up. I have not provided aeration, but there is no algae forming, and even last year, during the drought, there was none. An old-timer told me that if the pond is not growing algae, there are likely springs underneath it, which are keeping the water fresh. I would appreciate any advice about improving this area. I would also appreciate any links that would give me basic advice. |

| Thanks Horton. I did not think to look under those words. I see there is a wealth of resources to get started on, and I appreciate you pointing them out to me. |
