Floating Plant Question

I bought a water hyacinth and a water poppy. What is the best for them:

1) tie a fishing line to a wieght to keep them in place and let them float on the surface w/o a pot.
2) use one of those floating pot plants (like Laguna's Floating Plant product)

I have the laguana product but now i'm thinking that they need to be directly in the water and not in a pot with soil to get the filtration benefits and best growth.

My water hyacinth just floats free. I don't have a water poppy so I can't speak about that plant.

RE: Floating Plant Question

If you're worried about the hyacinth floating into the skimmer, I have used fishing line to hold them back. I've also seen people use hoola-hoops, but it will probably need to be tied to a rock to keep the whole thing away from the skimmer.

RE: Floating Plant Question

That planter is not appropriate for either plant.

Hyacinths float free and water poppies are planted below the water surface like waterlilies.

That planter would be great for aquatic forget me nots, water celery or parrot's feather though....
