UV Light Problem

I have a 25-watt Emperor Aquatics UV light that won't work. I've replaced the bulb and the the 4-pin power connector that has the starter bulb attached to it. (The old connector's bulb was corroded.) I also used a meter to ensure power is getting into the 4-pin connector. The unit has a window at the top for safely viewing the blue glow from the bulb, but nothing is happening and my water is getting greener by the day.

Any idea what else could be causing the problem?

Wxman5,
I would guess that the ballast is not any good. Just because you have power getting to the connector doesn't mean that it is the correct voltage.

RE: UV Light Problem

I just went through a similar issue with a 57-watt light for a Savio skimmer. The light had stopped working so I pulled it out to find the 4-pin connector had melted from overheating. The existing light with 4 metal connectors was corroded. I orderred a new 4-pin connector and a new light.

Now on my light there are only 2 wires (one black & one white) and 4 holes in the connector. The place I orderred the 4-pin connector from said to call Emperor Aquatics and they could tell me what holes to insert the wires into. Well since it was Friday night and me (Mr. KnowItAll) couldn't wait until Monday to make the call so I guessed. After I connected the 4-pin to the black and white wires I took a metal file and removed all the corrosion from the 4 metal connectors on the old light. When I plugged it in the light would only light at one end. I moved one of the wires to another hole and the old light lit up completely.

So now I have the old light working until the end of the season and a new one in reserve to start next season.

I any event, if you are having an issue try calling Emperor Aquatics at 610-970-0440.

Good luck,
-Mike
