Lotus has no Aerial leaves

Ok. A I got some seeds out of a dried lotus head and scores them and did everything need to do. I planted it and I got coin leaves but no aerial leaves at all. It is about 5 to 6 months old and is in a sheep watering bin. It is about 1- 1 1/2 feet deep. the width of the container is about 3 feet and the length is about 6. It is BURIED in 3-4 inches of soil. Is it supposed be buried it just sitting on top of the soil. Leaves do show on the surface of the water but no aerial leaves. When do the aerial leaves show up???

I had a similar problem with mine started from a tuber in Jan.. Started developing standup pads about a month ago
and is goning great now. Didn't know it took so long. Yours look very good to me especially if started from seed.
Probably just needs more time ??? gary

What zone are you in?
I agree........It looks good.......just needs more time.
I'm a little confused..........do you have the lotus buried in 3-4" of soil, or the stocktank? What variety of lotus is it? I'm thinking if you only have 3-4" of soil in there, you're going to need to add alot more soil eventually. And then you will need to thin it every so often.
I have my lotus in a 300 gallon sunk stocktank filled with soil to about 10" from the top and it has tons of aerials, but no blossoms. I'm thinking it needs thinned.........which will be a fairly big job.
And don't forget to eventually fertilize it.

ok. so i am in zone seven in oklahoma and the lotus is burried inside 3 to 4 inches of soil inside of the stocktank. how much soild does it need? also i dont know the variety. i just need some help. thank you all for seeing this and helping me. :)
