A light would be a nice touch, especially at night. However, fish often disappear for a few days when they are first put into a new pond. Before you know it you will be seeing them swim around and they will learn who has the food!!

Believe it or not you can actually train goldfish to do tricks and such. And since the best thing about having a pond is seeing the fish you need to train them to come out and say HI!!!

What I do is every time I go to feed then I first bang the fish food container a few times on the slate I have around the pond. Pretty soon they come to realize banging means FOOD and they swim out from under the plants to the feeding spot.

I also toss in the food one pellet at a time so I get the most viewing time at feeding. Additionally, when they've had enough I don't have a ton of food to fish out.

Thanks for the advice, Ernie! I had no idea goldfish could be trained. I'm going to start tapping on the barrell before I feed them. They still run and hide anytime I get anywhere near them.

Lol, patience, aggierose, patience. Your kids will come running to you in no time. Mine are well trained and eat out of my hand. One even has a couple of tricks under his belt and will perform on cue for my granddaughter.

Congrats on your new pond! And where, o where are your pics? We all wanna see your lil pot of paradise! I predict that this time next year you'll be sharing your plans for a BIGGER pond *chuckle* (it's addicting, ya know)
