I have a water lily that has outgrown the whiskey barrel it is in and I want to give it to a friend to put in his pond. Can I do it now or should I wait until spring before it has started to grow? I bring it in and store it in the cellar for the winter. Any advice you have for me would be appreciated.Thanks.

I wouldn't think it would be a problem to go ahead and move it now, unless you're having weather extremes. They're pretty resiliant. I just recently moved one of my tropicals from a tub to the pond, and it's doing great. Better, in fact.

Yes, they are incredibly resilient. Any time would be fine. I'm assuming your friend is taking it out of the container? You could even cut part of it out to save for yourself and all would be fine.

Thanks all for the advice. I don't think I will keep any tho. I want to try something else in my barrel next year. Any suggestions?

A small lotus would be a bit more interesting, if you get plenty of 70f-90f stuff through Summer
