That was a surprise

So, thinning the water hyacinths today, pulled one out and dropped it on the patio, and something small moves in a quick slithering way out of the roots.

Leaped about 6 feet back before taking a good look at it. Totally surprised to find a dragonfly larva had been hiding out in the hyacinths roots. Managed to get him back into the pond and he swum down in a hurry. Hopefully got some shelter before one of the comets managed to get him.

Between the fish and the fact that it's such a tiny pond, I wasn't expecting to have dragonflies breeding in it. Very happy about it though! Even if he gave me a fright.
