stainned wood for edging

I'm building a new pond dimensioned at 12'x 8' x 4'deep.

3' below ground and 20" above ground. Above ground portion will have 4x4 posting and 2"thick x10"wide wood. I wanted to

stain ( with oil base decking stain varnish ) all the wood before construction. My concern is that on the edging after the stain has dried up water splashed on it and get into the pond. Will the water be poisonous and cause harm to the koi due to the stained wood.

Has any one used stained wood around the pond? Any feedback would be welcome.
