| i bought couple of small lotuses from ebay 3 or 4 years ago. i have them now in a large pot. the leaves are there all the time and infact i have leaves over and above the water. but never had any blooms. 2 years ago i cleared the pots and put all the remaining in one large container. no change. now i do not kow if i have both lotuses or only one is growing. i have seen some containers here that are gorgeous and blooming in the same size container i have. one of the lotus i bought is mamo botan??? i dont know what i am doing wrong. these are the only ones i have been waiting for 4 years, to bloom. i am in south florida. do i need to thin and fertilize more? i have to admit i have not been fertilizing. all advices are appreciated and thank you in advance.

| They need a lot of sunlight and a lot of fertilizer. |

| Lotus are not keen on temperatures going over 95°f, it could be the pots would bloom if they got some shade through midday Lotus don't need much in the way of fertilising, if anything harsh fertilising is likely to cause more problems than a lack (pollution, poor water quality) Half a tomato spike through the growing season after aerial leaves are formed is probably as much a perk that is needed to push a few extra buds |

Hi had a similar experience with my lotus . Never quite grew nor died . I feel that it had "zone 10 syndome" lol but many individuals as well as nurseries grow these in fact the nursery I got it from is in 10. Have you asked on the Florida forum?? Several growers on there I was very put off to notice they are listed as "noxious weeds" in 10 while I killed them lol. Good luck gary |

I worked for five years at a water gardening center where we propagated and sold lotus. 20gal containers 1/2 full of Georgia red-clay type soil, cover in water. Five fertilizer pellets finger deep when plated, five more when they were growing well and preparing to bloom. They liked a lot of sun in zone 6b. It's 'Momo botan' good luck! B. |
