Is it too late to fertilize water lilies?

I'm afraid I quit fertilizing my waterlilies too soon in the season. I was having some pain issues and just didn't get out there. The last time was probably in August. Is it too late in the season? Should I just wait until spring?

I think it would be better to just wait until the spring. They will be going into their dormant period very soon anyway.

Thanks serenae. That's what I was thinking. I'll wait until spring and then load them up.
