babies found on water change ?curious

We just found 4 babies while doing our winter preparation water change. Most of our fish are koi but we do have 2 goldfish and 2 shubunkins in pond as well. Three of the babies are all black in color with one solid orange. I was curious if anyone knows whether its typical for koi babies to be black or could they be from the goldfish? Can't say that I've ever seen either in solid black. I suppose maybe they're culled by fish breeders? This is our fist experience with babies. We had a lot of plant coverage so I guess we never noticed them until now. They're probably just over an inch or so in size. Our fish stay in pond for the winter so we'll just let them hang out with the others. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks, Connie

Very probably not Shubunkins, because they are born with color. A lot of goldfish and comets are black in the beginning and turn orange later, some much later than others. I don't know about Koi. They could be hybrids since you have both Koi and Goldies. I have a black Koimet "hybrid" that is about 20 inches. Actually he is a bronze color in the sunlight, but looks coal black down in the water.

Their are also black koi. Not many people are intersted in black koi. That is why not too many people have seen them.

thanks for the responses. I appreciate it. Guess I'll just wait and see how they develop. Will be fun to see.

They are likely Goldfish. In Nature the the black/bronze coloring protects them from Predators. They will turn orange next spring when the water warms up.
