Hey Vickie. In your zone you can just weight the hornwort down with a brick and sink it to the bottom. In the spring it will show lots of new growth. As for the others, it is best to leave some above the surface. Some one in your zone may have other advice.

If the hornwort is long, trim them down to an inch or two, and for ease in the spring you can put them all together in a pot and put in the bottom of the pond. Trimming them down will minimise rot, as those stems will die off.

Hi.

I have buckets of hornwort in my pond at the moment.
Do I understand it so that I trim it all and just leave a few inches of it weighed at the bottom to regrow next year?

Ive already hauled some of it out earlier this summer, as it seemed to take up too much space from the goldies to swim.

As far as I know, yes you should trim them down and get rid of any excess, or it will rot and bring down your water quality in winter.

In spring, you'll have to bring up back up closer to the surface, and it should grow up taller again. :)

That's good that you have lots of it! It's a great oxygenator.

If you have an aquarium, you can winter the hornworth indoors. I have two 30 gallon aquarium which I will be using to over winter my pond plants. might even bring some fish from the pond in.
