| found about 2 dozen baby fish this summer in my 8000 gal pond. they are all growing, some are almost 2.5 inches long now, others smaller and still black (color)
all are koi, some butterfly-type looking, others plain. Should I do anything special to ensure their survival thru the winter ? We leave the filter/pump in place and running thru the winter (usually only have a few weeks of frozen pond, never totally freezes over) and we heat an area near the pump to keep it running. I hate the thought of fishing them out of a 24 foot long, five foot deep pond. |

| I need to remove 8 - 10 five and six inch fish from a 1100 gal pond, dread thinking about it. I believe I would let them take their chances and remove them the next time you need to draw the pond down. |

| The strongest of your fishies will survive, especially in your zone. Maybe all of them. Don't clean all the algae out since that will likely be the best food source for them. |

| thanks - since chasing the fish is such a hassle, i am leaning toward leaving them, I mean, nature does it. so ... also i dot have a really great indoor place to keep them, other than my "sick fish" tank. |

| i would leave them in the pond.i had the same thing happen a few years ago.we had a late spawn, and had small fry, late in the season.i thought they would not survive the winter.i netted about a dozen out and put them in a tank in the house.they all died.the few that were left in the pond made it thru the winter. |
