| We have a 2000 gal. pond with a waterfall new this year. We don't know when's the best time to blow the lines and stop the waterfall. So far we are still having days in the 50's. Do we wait till we see ice or do it while it's still fairly warm? We have 12 larger goldfish and their 40+ young ones.
Thanks for any help. Cathy |

| It looks like we are fairly close. I am in the Queensbury area. I keep mine running until it starts freezing during the day. So far the cold temps at night, while below freezing, aren't enough to cause me problems. However, once we start having the freezing days, then I close down all the outter running water. Last winter I ran just a bubbler and may do that again this year. My understanding is that it is important to have an open hole for gas exchange. Previous years I dropped the pump hose to the bottom of the pond and let it circulate. That worked well also. I never had a totally frozen surface. I have a much smaller pond than you (160 gal) and cover it with windows. Anne |

| Do it now. Last year I waited about a week too long and damaged my pump hose by ripping it out of the ice not to mention the outlet valve on my biofilter had frozen solid. This year I did mine last weekend, cleaning and putting away the biofilter, sinking the plant pots that can't stand freezing into the deepest part of the pond, cleaning out as much debris as I could get with a fine mesh net, ... My pond is 1100 gallons. |

| I wait till the last minute, I think im in the same zone as you. My pond is tented for the winter with a bubbler. I hate "tucking it in" because I know it can be up to 5 months before I see it again. It's 500 gal with 2- 50 gals above for the falls. The critters miss it in the winter and so do I. sniff sniff |

| Hi, Thank you all. I guess sooner is better. We have the pump to clean as well as removing the UV light, etc. and we'd better do it before a hard freeze damages something. Cathy Plattsburgh P.S. Lisa I know what you mean. It's a long time without seeing the fish and hoping that they are ok. |
