Pond trouble

Hi, I'm new to this forum and I have an unusual problem which I hope someone out there will be able to help me with.
I've built a sunken pond, 3ft deep by 6ft wide by 15ft long, the top being at ground level. Its built using concrete block walls lined with butyl rubber. Unfortunately between finishing the construction and being ready to fill the pond, the ground water level rose so much that now water has filled the pond from under the liner, pushing it up.
My question is how do I now fill the pond? Will adding water push out the ground water or do need to find a way of pumping out the ground water first, bearing in mind the liner is fixed in place now.
Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Will.

It's more than likely that filling the pond will push the groundwater out/away. I had a similar problem once when some tubing came loose from an external filter and flowed under the liner.

If you can carefully insert a PVC tube down into the ground water without damaging the liner the ground water will drain away quicker. The liner right now, is preventing air pressure from working. It is forming a vacuum that holds the water like a toilet plunger. Sandy
