Propagating tropical water lilies

Has anybody here ever started a new tropical water lily from the little plantlets that sometimes form at the center of the parent plant's leaves? If so, how do you do it?

I'm cross-posting this on the Florida Gardening Forum too.

Thanks,
John

RE: Propagating tropical water lilies

Viviparous starts grow very easy in a wide latitude of conditions that they like. No special equipment or gobbledygook required

In 70's-80's water, fair to good light, once the 'vip's have formed a few roots and shoots they are independent plants and will continue to develop as long as conditions are good

In just a dish of water, modest light and fertility, a vip can develop to be a well rooted and shooted tuber up to an inch or so in size over winter, convenient to plant out in a cold frame and into bud ready to plant out for Summer

No need to be stuck with poor choice, poor prices by resellers, at all. Especially if you check out the specialist collectors listing on ebay, $10 is typical for a named variety
