| I went with a younger friend to get an HIV test. She was scared to go alone so I said we'd both do it. It was only $40, it didn't hurt, and they don't take your name. While we were both waiting for the result, we learned that the fastest group of new infections are young women. The virus caught early and treated makes all the difference. You can't wait for symptoms to appear, then it's too late, your body can't help itself even with medications. It's hard for young women to go for a test like this but it's so important and the cost is low. My aunt went through breast cancer treatment and I wish I could have spared her that pain. This is a way to spare someone you love some pain. The nurse also discusses ways to protect yourself for the future. It's also sad to think of married people getting this scary disease but it happens to plenty of innocent people. Please friends do this test and talk to your kids and friends. |

| Hi, You make a very important point. Lately, its as if no one is talking about AIDS and HIV. I heard similar stats not long ago. Having 2 daughters I worry about that stuff. I do my best to teach them to be aware, and be safe i.e. always use a raincoat. I really hope I am heard. An ounce of prevention.... I agree all parents should talk to their kids, and friends should look out for their friends. |
