| It's off to Joshua Tree, Palm Springs, and L.A. for me and the boy on this long weekend!
I plan on taking him up to the observation balcony at the Griffith Observatory at night to see the L.A. skyline stretching off into infinity. Then, I think I'll ask him what the greatest city in the world is. If he says "Barcelona" I may give him a bye. Otherwise, any answer other than Los Angeles and I may just go ahead and shove him over the edge. (NOT REALLY) MichaelAT |

| And you'll have some wonderful pictures for us, right? My grandparents managed some tiny cabins at Yucca Valley for several years in the '60s - When we'd visit, my sister and our cousins would get our own little hideaway. Lots of fun memories there :) |

| We did Michael. Patricia, Pagsn, Meredith, Carla, Renae at RU and beyond. |

| PAGAN I forgot how to type, sorry Charleston! |

| MAT, it sounds like a wonderful weekend! I love how much you sound like you love your kids, BTW. We did have fun, Carla! It was great to see y'all. And it was humid and charged with the electricity of the impending thunderstorm and BeeBee barking and people closing up shop WITHOUT MY ORDER YET AACK and we're throwing cakes and champagne in the back of your car... whew! an exciting time to see folks! We'll have to plan an NC get-together where we can sit and chat next time, lol. |

| I wish I'd read this earlier - I would have tried to persuade you to visit me. 8-( Sounds like fun - my DH takes the boys to Joshua Tree to climb rocks. I recently heard L.A. described as 'Jersey with palm trees'. *g* Andrea |

| Andrea, it would've been very nice to see you. Jorge tried to do the mountain goat thing and climb some rocks but I wasn't too keen on the idea :) Darbardi, I took some of some cactus and some rocks, nothing very inspiring. There were some fires up in L.A. and the haze was pretty thick. Carla, glad all you guys had a super experience. Morz, don't you just love the place? It's still a step back in time for the most part although houses are being built in a few places. The desert always tranquilizes me as soon as I drive into it. Meredith, yes I do. Jorge was amazed with--of all things--the quality of the manicure on the landscaping in Palm Springs. They must mow the grass everyday here. I just laughed. MichaelAT |

| This, the link at the bottom of the page, showed up on my homepage today. Nice, not too long, look at Joshua Tree and the High Desert in the NYT. And here's a cactus photo. I hope the thorns aren't too horribly oversharpened. (ouch, did I say that?--)
