| I wish I had some better news--------
The pain is still bad----the Dr. squeezed me in Friday--- morning---He gave me a cortizone shot----He thinks the bursa near the incision is causing the pain.---It really hurts to put weight on it . Well --so far I'm still in pain---He said if it persists I will need a bone scan to determine why I'm having so much pain--- When I had the right hip replaced I had a stress fracture in the Femur----Dr said this new prosthesis is more flexible and he is surprised I'm still in pain------ Oh well-----it has been a rough 3 months--- Can't do much Christmas decorating-----Just a little bit here and there. My son and DIL and 2 grandsons will be here for Christmas Eve---then on Christmas Day we will drive to Lancaster to be with Robyn and her children--It is a sad Christmas with all the upset. there will be a meeting at Domestic Relations with the lawyers on New Years eve Day Hope everyone has a nice Christmas-- We will try to have a little happiness Hope the New Year is better. | Florence I hope the Cortizone gives a little relief |
|
| Florence, it is highly probable the new implanted prosthesis is irritating the bursa, causing it to swell, assuming that you did not experience pain (such as from arthritis) at the hip region before the operation. It would help not to lie on that side of the hip when sleeping, and use a cane while standing up from sitting position, and when walking. Sometimes, cortisone shot will give permanent pain relief, so let’s hope for the best. If the pain recurs, a second or third shot may be needed. While you’re on cortisone, avoid aspirin. Ibuprofen is OK. Check with your doctor if you’re taking any meds. Cortisone can elevate blood pressure, so a low salt diet will keep it down. It’s also possible that the prosthetic is pressing on a nearby nerve, causing constant pain. A bone scan can help to find out the cause of pain, and any additional fracture around the hip. Sorry to hear you’re experiencing pain for a while. I hope cortisone will give the relief you need to enjoy the holiday season. |

| My dear rosey friends----- thanks for all your kind thoughts and information--- Apparantely the shot did not help---next step is a bone scan to see what is causing the continuing pain----- Roseleaf---your suggestions sound good----it does feel like something is pressing a nerve----hopefully the bone scan will determine the problem. About my daughter----Christmas Eve was very difficult. DH ( he has been a rock through all of this) and I spent Christmas Day with her and today she seems much better-- I just had a long conversation with her and she feels she has finally turned a corner--which is good news for all of us-- It has been a very painful time but I think I finally have my precious daughter back-- Thanks for the prayers and plese keep them coming------- Love to all-- Florence |

| More healing thoughts coming your way. Thank goodness for your wonderful DH! Best wishes for better times in '08. |

| Flo, I'm so sorry about the hip pain. When Rob was 16 he was crushed by a tractor and broke his right femur in the hip socket. After such an extreme fracture it was unlikely to heal correctly, and it didn't. He experiences constant pain but has been able to manage it with meds, exercise and diet. I feel for your husband. It is terrible to watch someone you love suffer from debilitating pain. Hopefully the scan will pin point exactly what is causing the pain so it can be fixed. I'm glad your daughter is doing better. She is very lucky to have such a wonderful mother. Best wishes always, Patrick |

| You have been in our thoughts and prayers Florence. We come here to keep up but don't often post. That doesn't mean we aren't thinking about you. Deb & digger |

| Florence, I'm really sorry to read this.. You've done so well with all of your surgeries, was hoping it would go away with time. Pretty sure I left you a link for medical posters a while back, it showed the nerves and where they go. I did a search but can't find the post. I think that looking at the posters to see if you can pinpoint the pain might tell you if it is the hip or in the spine. Since you do have back problems, I wonder if it's actually the back and a nerve there. Google searches: One that I use a lot.. Spinal Nerves and Sensory Dermatomes spinal nerves 2 - wish I could find this larger Doing a google for dermal segmentation, or spinal nerves may give you some answers. I will say that printing some of these out, then marking your pain may help the doctor figure out exactly what's going on. A cane was mentioned, which you probably use? Have you thought about crutches? I always keep them in my car, can't tell you how many times I went to the mall with a cane only to have someone go to the car and get the crutches. What I've found is that it relieves the pressure off of my disks.. I also don't put the leg on the floor that is giving me problems. It helps. |

| Florence, I'm sorry to hear you're still suffering. I hope they'll figure out what the problem is. My Aunt has been through a lot of back pain and found that accupuncture helped her a lot. I have never tried it but maybe there's something to it. I'm glad to hear your daughter is turning a corner and feeling better. |
|
| There's actually someone good in PA.. CMA Acupuncture and another office 1405 Joel Drive She was not trained here.. My neuro told me that he wouldn't send me to someone trained here, his wife also used one not trained here |

| Dear Florence, So sorry to hear that you are not on the road to recovery yet and that you have been through so much. Hopefully the results of the bone scan will give them a better idea as to why you are not healing as expected and will be able to sort you out very soon. ..........I am happy to hear your dear daughter is coming to terms with her current situation, which hopefully means that soon she can move on to a much happier life! Good luck in the New Year to you and yours. Hugs, Pauline - Vancouver Island |
