I accidentally broke off a new upcoming shoot of a new hybrid tea rose. Will it throw a new shoot from the site of the same bud? Its a small plant as yet and I wanted a shoot from that bud.... Alas, excessive handling led to breaking off that tender young shoot.......

Usually, there are two guard buds at each growth bud, permitting growth from that spot just in case something damages or kills the main, central bud. That's usually why cutting off a root stock sucker results in TWO new canes from that spot. It's also why "maidens", newly budded plants which have produced only one main shoot from the scion, are cut back, so they produce two new canes from the scion instead of just the one. It's highly likely either, or both of the guard buds will break into growth from where the new shoot broke off, unless when it broke off, it took the others with it. Even then, Nature has its ways. If that was the only bud on the plant, I'd worry. The greatest probability is there were at least several others so it's probably nothing to lose any sleep over. I wouldn't worry about it, just enjoy watching it mature. Have fun! Kim

If it was a soft new bud that broke off at its' base from the cane or from the bud union then it wont regenerate from the same place. Guard buds spring from a growing cane that is cut off in the growing region where there are meristematic cells. From one you will get two. BTW, if you break off a sucker at its' base it wont regenerate but if you cut it off above the base you may get two suckers.
