I contacted Heirloom roses about their minis and was told theirs were not suited for indoors. Now can anyone suggest minis that do well indoors. Looking for a very small (12" tall or less), red, fragrant, mini that does well indoors. All suggestion are welcome and appreciated. Pembroke

There are no roses -- mini or full size -- that grow well indoors. NONE!!! GIve up. Get a houseplant. p.s. the grocery store mini's that seem to be intended for indoors are meant to take the place of a bouquet. You are supposed to let the one cycle that has been greenhouse-forced bloom out, and then throw the whole plant away.

Kstrong is right. Roses HATE being inside. You would have to dedicate a room to the correct conditions to keep it alive for any length of time. Besides high light conditions they prefer high humidities too. IF you can keep one of those gift minis alive through a Kentucky winter indoors you can plant it out in your garden in the spring and watch it really take off and grow!

You will be disappointed if you try to grow any type of rose indoors - they are outdoor plants. Further, I have never had any luck growing grocery store minis - they are spindly and never grow well - if they manage to live. Buy from a reputable seller and either pot it up for outdoors or plant in the ground. Roses are wonderful plants but must have proper conditions to grow.

Why not plant it outdoors? Just curious.

knew a lady that had a micro mini in her living room during the winter and I thought it was just beautiful. Long story short I thought I'd like to try one too. May wait until Spring and buy a small one for a pot. Pembroke

Micro minis also won't live indoors. it's not the size of the rose -- it's the conditions -- roses need to be outdoors, all sizes. Mostly it's the light -- they need direct sunlight (which is a need not met by light through a window).

Roses are even hard to grow in a greenhouse! They have disease problems!
