I received my roses from Chamblees yesterday, and yes, they are small - but they do have multiple branches and they look healthy. I think it is fairly normal to receive smaller plants when they are own root and one is receiving them during the very earliest part of the shipping season. At least that has been my experience. Plants that I receive later in the season have always been larger.

Yes, you should expect them to flower this summer, but it may take them several years to become large established plants in the garden, depending upon how vigorous the particular variety is and your climate and the care they receive. There is no hard and fast rule regarding how fast they will grow.

I just went to Chamblees last Saturday and bought about 18 roses. I get the one gallon pots and grow them. The roses looked really good - but the one gallons are small - but they will grow! Just plant or repot, take good care of them and they will reward you. You can disbud them and let the energy go into growing roots. I do this, Kim and several others recommend it. You can help along with light doses of fish emulsion, I mulch with well rotted horse compost from my big compost pile, and water regularly. Spray for blackspot if needed - they will grow and pleasantly surprise you.

Depends on which cultivars you chose--some take off fast and get big fast, while others are daintier.

The gallon plants from Chamblee are actually larger than the tiny bands that I usually buy elsewhere. Should grow very nicely for you! expect them to work on building their root system this year, and maybe not growing upwards until next year. It will be well worth it though. Exciting! I love watching my babies grow up.

I've purchased a good number of roses from Chamblees: Austins, teas, floribundas, a couple of Wild Blue Yonders.... and they've all proven to be very vigorous growers.

Chamblee roses are good, but they need time. You have to be prepared to get some, but not much bloom this year, a little more next summer, and finally the third summer, a good bloom. (Sleep, Creep, Leap).

I am speaking about Tulsa, OK. Others here are reporting on the areas farther south than us. I will not dare to plant for a month.
