Has anyone used Spray n Grow?

| I get their catalog every year, but have never ordered anything. I was thinking about trying the Spray n Grow. Does anyone have experience with this product? I'm envisioning huge rose bushes loaded down with dozens of blooms...and it's making me salivate...

| I bought into the Spray and Grow advertising twenty plus years ago. I didn't notice any real difference with or with out it. Kim |

Any of those hose end fertilizers give a very dilute dose. To be anywhere near effective, you would need to spray at least every other day. You can get Wal*Mart's generic water soluble, K-Gro from K-Mart or other generic brands from any big box store will work about as well for a lot less. Just check the NPK content. As long as that's close to the Spray and Grow or Miracle Gro NPK content you'll get similar results. All of these act quickly and don't stay in the soil long. The nitrogen evaporates as urea gas and leaches out quickly. I think you'll find you'll spend considerably more than if you purchased an organic or slow release chemical type you have to scratch in, it'll last longer in the soil, and give you better results. |

I didn't get any real results using it either. I have better luck using Superthrive from Wal-Mart. I think that Messenger is about the best of those types of foliar sprays that I have tried. I am disappointed that Messenger is no longer available. I hope some other manufacturer starts supplying it for Bio-Tech in the future. I really like the effect Messenger has on the foliage. For me it makes the foliage thicker, denser, more disease resistant, and of course larger so the whole plant does better as a result of it all. Sometimes the foliage gets a little too big, but that's okay so long as I am not using them for exhibition anyway. John |

| I think, from local friends' experience, you'd be paying extra for a name brand. One of their main fertilizer ingredients listed is seaweed/kelp. I have bought that inexpensively as kelp meal and also in a liquid formula. In my experience it seems to make the leaves more disease-resistant. That compamy also includes fish byproducts in their fertilizer. These can also be found inexpensively at nurseries and home centers as liquid fish emulsion or fish meal. This can increase soil fertility, among other things. |
