Are grubs harmful to roses?

I know they kill the grass.

Grub feedback please!

RE: Grubs

I'm not aware of the grubs being harmful to roses but the adult insect that hatches out of them may be. Check out link below. Both the Japanese Beetle & the Rose Chafer cited in the link attack the rose, out west they have another beetle, Fuller Beetle I believe, that also attacks roses. You really need to have someone ID the grub to know for sure.

RE: Grubs

Mauvegirl, I can happily say that since I got rid of my grass, I don't see many grubs. We do get these black beetles here that I occasionally find in roses, but they don't seem to damage the rose - just look ugly, and occasionally I find the white grubs in the beds. I squish them, but I guess there are others that I don't find. These beetles don't come in great numbers like JB's.

The only reason that grubs are harmful to roses is because they turn into beetles...Japanese beetles!!

We use Grub X on the lawn and I have a lot fewer beetles than I used to have.
