How tall is it? Being that it's potted you won't lose any of the root ball when you transplant it so it should not be a problem for it to feed the entire plant. The root ball has already been doing that. The only problem I can see is if it's too big to handle to get it into the ground. I would really try not to cut it all and just make the move if at all possible.

As far as making it bushier, you can try but Dublin Bay is known for being sparse at the bottom. It likes to send up 3 or 4 big canes and then bush out at the top. I killed mine by cutting it way back (like to 6 inches) in the hope that it would send out more canes. It just died instead.

Even though its been in the pot 2 years, it is not a monster and would be very manageable if put in the ground and not pruned - I would tie the canes together with hay string then plant the rose. Just didn't know if I should prune or not. Sounds like this one shouldn't be pruned - since it is dormant now...might just go ahead and plant, mulch and water it and tie the canes to the fence.

If it's dormant now is the best time to do it. It will wake up and not even know it was moved, lol!
