Advice for these roses?

We bought a home last year that came with two potted roses in the back patio. I would like to keep them and I want to get a start on preparing them for the growing season. My real question is - what kind of rose is this? http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/27/rosesbt.jpg/

Is it a standard rose? It's quite tall but I think it needs to be pruned. I plan to prune, repot, and start treating with fungicidal soap to prevent/treat the blackspot before it starts this year.

Any advice on how I can rejuvenate these roses or what kind they are would be greatly appreciated!

Oh, and I should mention, we live in Philadelphia (center city) so I can't plant them in the ground. It's potted roses or nothing. :-)

Looks like a climbing hybrid tea to me. Perhaps Tropicana? Anyway, if you google "pruning climbing roses" you will get some articles that will help.

Also, I would google "growing roses in pots" for articles about that.

If yo want to look up specific roses, there is a fantastic web site called Help Me Find / roses.

Good Luck!

Just keep in mind potted roses may need special winter protection in your area. This is because being in a pot, the roots will be exposed to much more cold than they would be if they were planted in the ground. Just something to keep in mind.

Looks like my Mom's "America", it is a climber, fungicidal soap won't help the black spot it will need a synthetic fungicide treatment to retain the leaves (Mom lives in Philly). It can be pruned (typically in late March, early April). Go to youtube and search for "Paul Zimmerman", he has some very nice videos on rose care, including pruning.

Yes, I was going to guess 'America.'

Thank you all very much! I think it is a pretty rose and will definitely try to give it some new life this year. I think it had been neglected for a while during the sale of the house.
