yellow climber wanted

for a zone 5 garden. I am willing to tip for winter; currently my two Jacobus climbers, Autumn Bouquet and Dream Girl are slumbering peacefully under a layer of dirt and compost.

I want a soft or clear yellow climber, a color to blend well with the pinks and whites I already have. I am considering Goldregen and Gold Star, both on the currently available list at Vintage. I would have liked Cl. Sunflare, and planned on tipping each winter, except it seems to not be available unvirused (alas). Email to RGV asking about the virusedness or not of their cultivar went unanswered, and I am not willing to take a chance at this point.

Another possibility is a found yellow climber at HCR, thought to be a Brownell climber.

Does anyone have experience with any of the three named above, or other suggestions?

Lykkefund is a soft yellow, practically thornless helenae hybrid with a long season of bloom.

Lykkefund is quite beautiful, thank you campanula. It might be too vigorous for the spot I have now, which is along a chain link fence, along with the two Jacobi, New Dawn, Awakening, Rosarium Uetersen and Karlsruhe, with Louis Rodinger to be delivered in May.

Lykkefund appears to be available from Northland Rosarium. I do have a tree at the NW corner of my lot which would benefit from a rose growing into it--what else are trees for? The spot is rather shaded, however. Perhaps I should keep Lykkefund, if I do buy it, in a black pot through the summer to grow leaves, stems and roots, and plant out in fall or even the following spring when there might be canes long enough to train into the tree.

Mermaid is a fantastic yellow climber, highly rated by the American rose society (8.6).

One drawback - fierce thorns

Or, how about Golden Showers? Deeper yellow -rated at 7.4

How about Roberta Bondar? It's a very nice clear yellow, a cross between King's Ransom and Buff Beauty. Bred in Canada and rated to zone 5b on HMF.

foosler, I don't think Mermaid is hardy in zone 5, and it is one I would not want to tip. I am afraid I am not a fan of Golden Showers.

Tessiess, I had forgotten about Roberta Bondar, thank you for the reminder.

No, Mermaid is not hardy to zone 5. She is definitely a southern woman though with her thorns I would consider her no lady.
