| My pink roses need replacement in my garden here in the Puget Sound area. I am wondering what other gardeners in this area find are the best pink roses (For cutting) and what rootstock they are on. They should also be at least fragrant enough to detect, and been in place more then 5 years. |

| Probably shoot for something around 20-25 petals (so the flowers open) with excellent disease resistance. Do you spray fungicide? If I lived in a cool-summer area I would try 'New Zealand' which has simply outstanding fragrance, probably the best fragrance on a modern rose I've ever sniffed. It did poorly here because it was too warm for its liking. It prefers cooler weather. You might have to spray though! 'Secret' has a good fragrance and prefers cool weather. Pink/white blend, though. Another one that might be really good is 'The McCartney Rose', not the species, the modern HT. Pink, strong fragrance, good for cutting, likes cooler conditions, not too many petals to open in cool conditions, good productivity. Pretty decent disease resistance. I'm sure someone in your area will have good suggestions soon. |

I live east of Portland in similar climate and have the following pinks and pink blends that do awesomely well: LeeAnn Rimes Princess de Monaco Lloyd Center Supreme Yves Piaget Color Magic Sharifa Asma Paradise Cynthia Double Delight Our Lady of Guadalupe Kiss of Desire/Harlequin (climber) Parade (Climber) Jean LaJoie (Mini Climber) Climbing Eden If you have the chance to come to Portland and visit the International Rose Test gardens in late May through September, you'll see many, many lovely varieties that do well in cool rainy weather. Yves Piaget is a shrub rose with old-fashioned cup shape and with many petals that does great in cool weather---I first saw it at the Rose Gardens and was impressed with it there and had to have it for my own garden... |

| I hated Yves Piaget..the color was garish in my eyes. To each his own I guess! |

| Thanks folks! I really appreciate these suggestions! Portland is much warmer in summer then our Island is...I know because 2 of my kids live there! Never the less, this will be a good place to start a list to check out! I appreciate it and welcome any other ideas. I should explain that my friend and I run a local cut flower business so these all need to be good roses for cutting. We hope our customers get a minimum of 5 beautiful days before things start falling apart. |

Frederic Mistral much paler pink than Piaget and more productive with an intoxicating fragrance; excellent for cutting; needs extra watering in dry weather Jadis, Memorial Day, Pink Peace, Tiffany - all very fragrant Bride's Dream former florist rose, very productive but sensitive to rain; Savoy Hotel ; Sonia former florist rose |

| Another vote for Savoy Hotel. It is a fantastic cut flower which holds it's form. |

| I'm not anywhere near your area or your conditions, but Falling in Love and Countess Sonja are my best pink cut flowers. Falling in Love has a nice scent and Countess Sonja lasts forever but is unscented. Countess Sonja is one of the Freelander cut roses from Kordes that Palatine sells. All of the Freelanders are marketed as good cut roses and will list how long the flowers last. |

Liza, I was reading this for ideas and tho our zones are very different perhaps Tournament of Roses may grow well in Puget Sound. It is my longest lasting med. pink. Not as elegant looking as Secret and Tiffany but much better lasting power. |

| Belinda's dream and Frederick Mistral are my best pink roses. Not only they have good resistance, but they are fragrant and perform well in our humid Seattle weather. |

| I would love to grow some white roses around the edge of the front of the house. What kind of soil do they usually grow in? Mine is very rocky and can sometimes be dry through most of the year. Should I bring in fertilized dirt to use? |
