Concerned with the amout of prickles...

I don't have any new growth yet. However, I have been reading a lot about RRD. The excess of thorns is typically a sign. Is the plant below a suspect? I thank you in advance!

Sorry! I forgot to mention, this is Sonia.

It looks perfectly normal to me. Some roses just have more prickles than others, and I don't see any worrisome indications of disease.

That's normal. The RRD that I've seen has WAY more thorns than that. You can't see much or any cane at all between the thorns on them. The other thing is that usually the RRD thorns never harden up but remain soft and rubbery. A lot of new growth thorns start out soft but quickly harden as the cane matures.

Something else: your Sonia has an assortment of prickles of different sizes.

All the RRD infected roses I've seen (including some rugosas) have masses of prickles of the same size as one of their RRD symptoms. And further complicating things, not all RRD infected roses are "hyper thorny"

RRD thorns do harden up eventually, but often they stand out so oddly that we grasp them physically before we grasp the meaning behind/within them.

Thank you so much for the additional information. Now I am familiar with the quantity and the lack of size variations, I have a better gauge for assessing. Thank you again!
