Has any one seen this in person? Grown it? It looks gorgeous and although I grow mainly own root roses, I may break my rules and try to get a hold of one of these bareroot. I'm hoping with the parentage- MoonstoneX Hot Cocoa it would have a chance of surviving my winters with mounding protection. I'm only finding it listed at Edmund's and S&W Greenhouse, has any one seen it listed elsewhere?

It appears that the Correta Scott King Rose will be released in 2014, according to Edmund's site. That may be the case with all nurseries. I don't know. I would love to have one too. I have two Hot Cocoa roses and love it. I don't know about how this new rose would fair in the cold, but with a parent like Hot Cocoa, it's bound to be a good one. HC sure does well in extreme heat and drought like we're having here in Oklahoma. It never stopped blooming all last summer, no matter what the weather dished out . It has remained looking well all winter too. It is a tough rose. No Black Spot , rust, or any disease problems for me, whatsoever. If you learn anything, please post the info for me too. ~Annie |

Hi Annie, thanks for the info on Hot Cocoa. I was thinking with it's lineage,CSK would be a good one! According to HMF, Edmund's is the company introducing this one, and say it is a 2013 release. I did see the 2014 on Edmund's site, maybe it's a limited release until then? I'll have to contact Edmund's regarding their shipping policy, I'm still several months away from planting time and by then it may be sold out.

I've talked to the rose man at my local nursery and he mentioned it so it may already be out there in a limited amount. He said it looked really beautiful but of course he had no idea about disease resistance or hardiness yet.

I'll check with my Nurseryman here and see what he says, too. He grows most of what he sells, so if he has it this year, he would be able to tell me how it does. If I find out anything, I will post it for all of us. You are so right about the limited editions - they go fast! However, if you can be patient, it would be cheaper NEXT year. Just sayin'. |

I was privileged to see the lady in person -- I really hope the rose with her name is a good one!

The CSK rose was on the cover of the Edmunds catalog that came a month or two ago and is available from them now. It's a Kordes rose, which gives me hope for disease-resistance, but I'm a bit concerned about the text which stated that the colors are better in cooler weather. Summers around here have been just brutal with heat and humidity. I will be very interested to learn of everybody else's experience with this rose, since the picture is just magnificent.

Maybe it would be in my best interest to wait a year (or two) to see how this one does for others, my climate can be challenging and to add a rose with unknown performance history may be asking for trouble. It is so tempting though!!!

There are plenty of the new Coretta Scott King roses currently available. They are growing wonderfully. They require plenty of sunlight or at least a setting where they will get a good amount of morning sunlight. Visit www.CorettaScottKingRose.com

I am so disappointed this rose isn't recommended for warm climates! Fell in love with pictures of it a few months ago but thought like others it wasn't going to be out this year. It's just so beautiful! How hot is too hot? I'm 7b South Carolina, and I want this rose!! I wonder how it would do in partial shade. I'll be anxious to see how it grows for others on this site, it's a beauty of rose.

I'm another who backed-off from ordering CSK because of the statement that it performs best under cool conditions. Assuming that's an accurate assessment, it's really too bad that, to honor a lady from the deep south, the rose selected is one that would prefer NOT to grow there.

Hi All, The rose does well in all climates. The info says the "Cool temperatures bring out the best color", which is a statement that applies to any rose. Spring and fall always have the most vibrant colors for roses. I had that when I lived in Los Angeles, I have here in the upstate of South Carolina and northern gardeners have the same. That's different from the rose not performing well in warmer climates. A little background on this. I'm involved as the King Family contacted me to help them find the rose. I contacted Christian Bedard of Weeks Roses and he is the one who bred the rose. This rose was already slated to be released by Weeks in 2014 but had no name. Bernice King picked it out of photos. So this rose had already been through all of Weeks trials, tests etc. Since it did not have a name they agreed to name it after Mrs. King. There are around 10,000 plants at a wholesale nursery in central Florida and they tell us they are doing very, very well. They are very impressed with it. The rose is available from several sources mostly budded. The ones being sold through the corettascottkingrose.com website are own-root one gallons from the collection in Florida. A good portion of the proceeds from the rose sold from that site go to raise money for the work the King Family does. Hope this helps! Paul Zimmerman
