Raft Island Roses/paperoseman!

Can you believe it..Brian and I went for coffee and since Raft Island opened this weekend we stopped in there. Great sale 15.95! I was talking to the owner Frank Gatto and told him that I knew OF HIM..and I knew a few folks from the Garden Web and Paparoseman..Lance..and he told me Lance was there! Lance lives near me but I had never met him. He had invited me over to show me how he prunes his Autins! So I went down and introduced myself and he said he was there buying a rose for ME! I thought he was joking..but nope that's what he was there for! So I told him I wanted to be surprized and went to the car. He bought me a Glamis Castle. LANCE you are very sweet! I am going to go to a Heritage Rose meeting this month. First time!

Glad to meet you. It was a great day to go to a rose nursery and it dawned on me that I should get you a rosy house warming gift. Knowing you were looking for a white rose with Austin style bloom form. I looked though the roses and found a few great candidates. I went down to the main building to look at the pictures of some roses that I had not seen in bloom before to see if they were good looking whites. I ended up helping two people choose roses for their front bed when you walked in. Since I had never met you you were just another couple I may end up helping. I help out at the nursery when I am there because the owners are friends and so the employee's can help other customers.

If nothing else I got to meet you and did not have to drop off the rose on your front porch had you not been home when I stopped by.

Enjoy the rose,

Lance

What a lovely story. I have always believed that rose people are very thoughtful folks! I would love a lesson on pruning Austins. I have seen photos of paparoseman`s roses and he knows roses! Unfortunately, I live in KY!!!! Enjoy your rose and let us know Austin pruning tips. Lesley
