Best planting spot for a new rose - a Climber- America

I just bought - on impulse - because it was so beautiful, this climber, "America", from a big box store.

I'm in Florida...my yard has some bright sunny spots and some that are partial-shade.

How big will this climber grow? Also, if I plant it along the fence which would be shady on the bottom until the rose grew past the fence - would the rose die or thrive?

Unfortunately, the sunniest spots in the yard are not ideal if the rose bush were to grew huge.

It's so pretty -- I want to give it the best chance for success that I can so I still have not put it into the ground yet until I learn more.

Thanks!

The ones I have seen are barely climbers, not more than 6', but the flowers are gorgeous. If the fence is not too tall the rose will actually be happy to have shaded roots.

Hopefully you are in the part of Florida that doesn't have problems with soil nematodes, or that the plant you got is grafted onto Fortuniana, not Dr. Huey.

It is a gorgeous rose - with long lasting blooms that repeat all summer. Mine isn't cane hardy, so it gets to about 6-7 feet. You may want to consider training those canes early as they get somewhat rigid as they age. I'll bet yours in Florida will do fine along that fence. It will reach for the sun.

Thank you both - ptboise and hoovb - for your advice. Especially about it not getting that 'large'.

All the data I've read about this rose show it growing to 12-15ft....it sounds more like...only if you are lucky!

It's really a beautiful rose.....and some parts of my yard is extremely sunny and other parts are not.

I'm assuming if it's in a sunny//semi-shade spot it just won't get that many blooms?

Oh yeah, and we do have Nematodes! ....

I hope no one will think that I am hijacking this conversation. ^^;;

I also bought the climber America. I was hoping to put it out by my mailbox in full sun. My mailbox is encased in brick structure about 4 ft tall and quite a bit around (over 4 ft parameter). Could this be an adequate spot for America?

I live in south central Kentucky, Zone 6b.

Thank you for any advice or information you may provide.
